Shamelessly paraphrasing on one of Shakespeare’s more famous quotes, today, I give you “to think, or not to think, that is the question.” The real question of the times, I might add.
As we pause in our everyday life to celebrate the fourth of July this weekend, I find myself wondering how fully we appreciate all that Independence Day stands for, or if it has simply become a time for us to roast hotdogs over a fire and watch fireworks explode against a dark night sky.
I certainly hope we all realize that Independence Day is about a lot more than hotdogs! The separation of the Colonies from Great Britain on that notable day back in 1776 marked the first step in a long history of freedom. Over the years, it hasn’t been easy to maintain that freedom, and today we stand to lose all that we and our ancestors have fought so hard for.
The principles and standards supported by the Constitution are being dropped like flies as the leaders we elected to protect and uphold the Constitution disregard it with a concentration that is astonishing.
Last time I checked, being an American meant being free to make your own choices, for better or for worse, in your pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That opinion isn’t very popular right now among mainstream media sources, and certainly not among our leaders. They are perfectly happy if you don’t ask questions. Why should they care if you have read the constitution and declaration of indepenence? You’re just another average citizen. Or so they struggle to make you believe. They wage a psychological battle, drawing hard and fast class lines while preaching and trying to sell equality.
Do you notice how, while education is such an “important” thing, critical thinking is rarely encouraged? Are you ever given a textbook passage, and asked to point out the fallacies? Or are you led to believe that the teacher/professor is always right, the material presented in the books is always correct, and there is no need for further questioning of a subject? How much are we conditioned to never ask questions?
Where exactly do the questions of 3-year-olds get lost? You know, the days of, “Why is the sky blue? Why do trees have leaves? How do birds stay up? How many trees are there in the world? Why does a ladybug have spots?” Why doesn’t that attitude of questioning prevail through childhood and even adulthood? Sure, maybe some of the questions don’t have answers, but lets take this questioning bit to the political arena.
“Why do you think gun restrictions will prevent crime? Do criminals ever obey the law, or will gun restrictions merely hamper the law abiding citizens who allow the restrictions to be imposed?”
“Why should I let you dictate to me what kind of health insurance I should have, or if I should have any at all?”
For the past hundred years or so at least, our leaders in DC have been increasingly prone to make our lives better by cutting our freedoms.
What else was the prohibition movement all about? You think telling me it isn’t legal to purchase alcoholic beverages is some how making me free? You can laugh all you want, but we still suffer (and I do mean suffer
) from the lingering effects of the prohibition movement. To this day, in some off-the-map counties in Kentucky, for example, it is illegal to sell alcoholic beverages.
Plead irrelevance if you must. But this Independence Day I challenge you to ask questions. What exactly constitutes freedom? What makes you feel free? What will be the last step that pushes you over the edge to realizing how enslaved you are? Yes, it could be difficult to analyze these questions, let alone come up with answers, but don’t worry the egg before you get the chicken.
If you’re feeling pretty good about that, for the bonus round, ask yourself what the difference is between freedom, and the equality that our politicians are so bent on shoving down our throats. Interesting, isn’t it?
This Independence Day, I am proud to be an American, with the history of freedom-seeking “average citizens” who wanted nothing more than a better life for themselves and their children. For all that has changed in the past two-hundred some years I don’t believe that has. This year, let’s remind our leaders what freedom and the pursuit of happiness is all about.

Keep your eyes open… because all the evidence points to the fact that the Democrats are going to try to slip the Healthcare Bill through before the turn of the year.
Why are they being so stealthy about it? Could it possibly be that they know it’s unconstitutional and want to hurry up and get it through so that the American people won’t have a chance to call them on the carpet?
We cannot let this bill pass without our approval. The representatives and senators in Washington are our employees and it’s time they remember that. We, the people, have a say in whether this healthcare bill passes or not. If our representatives don’t listen to us now, Congressional elections are literally right around the corner.
Remember your place in American government. We are a democratic government. As voting members of society, we control the government. Polls show that the majority of Americans don’t support this bill. Let Washington know that!
Protect Our Right to Keep and Bear Arms!

Gun bans. There are two words that should strike fear into your soul!
The idea of a gun ban is not new. During the Clinton Administration, two gun control bills were passed. The Brady Bill passed in 1993. The law required a five day waiting period after purchasing a handgun, and the dealer had to report the sale to the local chief law enforcement officer to run a check on the buyer.
The assault weapons ban was included in the 1994 crime bill. The law banned certain semi-automatic firearms with two or more specific design features, and also prohibited the manufacture of ammunition magazines that held over ten rounds. Both bills were overturned eventually, and for excellent reasons.
Reason number one. The first, most obvious reason should be the Second Amendment.
The second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States says specifically, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” There it is. Proof that under this government we have the right to keep and bear arms, and also proof that the people voting for a ban on guns have never read the second amendment—or don’t truly believe in the United States of America, the wisdom and foresight of the founding fathers, and the documents they left behind.
Why are we allowing this ban to even be considered?
Gun bans do not reduce crime rate. Think about it. Why would a criminal turn in his/her gun? If, however, the law-abiding citizens turn in their guns, there is all of the sudden a huge possibility for robbery. There are physical statistics available that prove how ineffective the gun bans are. Look at Australia. After the lawmakers in Australia passed a gun ban, somewhere in the neighborhood of 650,000 weapons were turned in.
In the twelve months following: Country-wide homicides rose 3.2 percent, Assaults rose 8.6 percent, Armed robberies rose 45 percent, in the Australian state of Victoria, homicides rose 300 percent. Look anywhere else a gun ban law has been passed. Same results.
Without our weapons, we will be defenseless, and quite possibly dead. A ban on guns will not change anything except our ability to respond in the face of a crime, and subsequently the crime rate. The key to safety is preparedness. Good police force, good militia, and thoughtful citizens with guns in their trucks.
One of the major issues the gun-ban advocates are pulling is ‘safety for children’. According to one spokesperson, “It should be illegal to have a loaded weapon where a child can reach it.” I love kids. But banning guns won’t keep them any safer than they are now. All that is necessary for a child’s safety around guns is training. Train your child not to touch/be reckless with guns when he’s two, and chances are if you maintain that training, you’ll have a responsible twelve-year-old who can be trusted to go hunting, or protect the family if he needed to.
A gun ban threatens the safety of law-abiding citizens. It doesn’t stop criminals. It is unconstitutional.
Let’s call our State Representatives and Senators and let our voice be known. If this bill is passed, we will pay for it with our safety and our lives.

This past Saturday–Independence Day–my family took a patriotic excursion to Frankfurt for a “Tea Party”. The “Tea Party” movement is a grassroots effort, designed to wake up the people of America to the socialist/communist movement our government is taking. Tea Parties are not violent. They ARE controversial, but for some very good reasons, which I will point out later. TEA stands for ‘Taxed Enough Already’ and believe me–we are! Income Tax in America did not even exist until 1862–the government was supported by internal taxes on whiskey and tobacco. The income tax law was affixed for the Civil War effort, but it was up and down for upwards of thirty years. In 1895, it was ruled as unconstitutional by the U. S. Supreme Court (amen, hallelujah!). In spite of that, in 1913, the 16th amendment to the Constitution made the Income Tax a permanent fixture. (http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0005921.html)
Please understand that I understand taxes can be necessary. But, ladies and gentlemen, we are taxed beyond all reason! Our hard-earned money is going in part to operations that should be solely run off of donations (Planned Parenthood, for example–I most certainly am NOT okay with my hard earned money going to fund a business that calls itself “pro-choice” and only shows one side of the picture) and the same money is giving our politicians exorbitant wages. The president and vicepresident should have decent salaries, but we would have much more dedicated politicians in general, if they were given travel expenses only. In the beginning, State Representatives and Senators had a very minimal salary, if any! It was a PRIVILEGE to serve the people. Where has that mindset gone? Right now we have a bunch of people sitting on their cushy-chairs in Washington writing out more taxes for us to pay and you know what, it doesn’t matter to them, because they don’t live with “We the People”. They’re in an entirely different class! Just think, if we only paid for travel expenses (because you can’t expect politicians to just move every two or four years) we could weed out the people who are in it just for the money.
A Democratic Government means a Government that is run by the people. We are the people. So why aren’t we running our government? Are we happy in our teeny-tiny worlds where we pay every phony tax they throw at us without question? Do we enjoy having our liberties slowly ripped out of our hands? You think it isn’t happening? Look around you. Why should wearing your seatbelt be a law? Let’s say seatbelts DO make riding in a car safer, just for the sake of the argument. Why should whether you and I choose to wear them be dictated by the government? Shouldn’t it be personal choice? It doesn’t endanger anybody else second-hand–unlike excessive drinking or using drugs. It’s just another seemingly small way that our rights are being stripped away.
We are the people. We have the power to make the laws ourselves–or to stick up and say, “No. This is unconstitutional. We are the people. We will not tolerate this.” We go to the polls. Our votes elect our president and our congressmen. So why aren’t we using these privileges?
“But I vote. I go to the ballot box and I put my vote in.” But do you think about why you are voting? Do you consider who you are voting for? What does their past record in politics show? Is this a person you want your child to emulate? Will you approve of the laws this person may approve of, given his/her past history of voting? Or do you watch the news and keep a tally of who has the best commercials?
This is our job as the people of America! If we want to keep “the land of the free” free, we have to do our part. A democratic government is only democratic as long as it is governed by the people. When the people who vote are governed by the media, it loses all semblence of democracy.
The media DOES NOT tell the truth. About the only thing they do steadfastly is slam the politicians who have morals and who won’t cave under the pressure.
Remember the huge fuss about President G. W. Bush’s inauguration bill? Media people dragged out the figures and pointed out the difference between Clinton’s bill and Bush’s. Obama TRIPLED that number for his inauguration and the people on television remained mute. Our country is in a recession right now. SO WHY ARE WE SENDING MONEY OVERSEAS?
We need to ask questions. We need to demand answers from our politicians. We are the people. We need to wake up and make our decisions based on the FACTS–not television!
Update on States Rights

These phone calls are crucial. We do not have a track record of having any spine here…remember our state has been trying to be FIRST to comply with Real ID. Our state politicians want the money that is attached to that. Calling Frankfort DOES work, or it has in the past, but we will need a tremendous result on these issues. HB 228 passed unanimously in the house already.

This is important! We cannot expect America to continue to be the place of freedom we have always recognized it as if we do not stand up and make sure the leaders of this country realize that we are the United States of America, One Nation Under God. We are united under a democratic government, but we must retain our individuality. We are a nation under God, whether the President of this Country thinks so or not. And the only way we can prove that is by letting our states reclaim the rights that are theirs constitutionally so that we can put on a United front to the D. C. unit and remind them of the precepts this country was founded on.
And for Heavens sake don’t stop saying the Pledge of Allegiance just because it says ‘one nation under God’.

Beginning this week, my dad and I are going to be drafting a letter to send to our State Representative and State Senator.
As of now, at least five states have passed State Sovereignty Bills, based on the 10th Amendment.
Kentucky should be the next to sign this bill!
I will be posting updates as we continue to work on this issue. I believe that passing this bill in a most or all of the states is the only way to wrest this country back onto the path of true democracy.

Amazing! Snow in Kentucky!
Darn, darn, darn! The picture came out sideways–AGAIN!
The year is 2009, and though it may not feel any different, we are standing on the edge of a bridge. Nobody is sure what the future will bring to us, but it is inevitable that we will need to grip the guard railing tight. The rise and fall of economics, the degeneration of ethics and morals and consequent rise of crime, and our new president give us plenty of reason to say our prayers.
Two hundred years, more or less, have elapsed since John Hancock put his dashing signature at the end of the Declaration of Independence, but the truths presented there are still self-evident. They still apply to our lives today.
We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
These words were penned by some brilliant men! The founding fathers understood what they were writing about. They knew the importance of freedom because they had firsthand experience with tyranny and slavery. Please don’t underestimate the importance of the contributions the founding fathers made to America through those old documents that you had to memorize in high school.
What urged John Hancock, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin and those other greats to ‘dissolve the political bands’ which connected them with Great Britain?
Several things, scholars tell us.
One part of it was definitely taxes.
Taxes! What a familiar word, eh? If there is a single person out there who just loves parting with some quota of his hard earned money at the end of the year… well, there isn’t, because we are a materialistic, consumer-driven society.
The founding father’s declared independence from a ‘tyrannical’ King George because of taxes! Is there incongruity here or is it just my imagination?
Ever since the World War Two era, American’s have been taxed to within an inch of their lives. Did you know your hard-earned tax dollars support the Environmental Protection Agency? I’m not saying the EPA is an entirely organization (I know it has gotten out of hand, but that’s an entirely different blog post), but lets allow them to earn their own money! Everybody else has to work to support business…. Why shouldn’t they? What do they do after all? They use our tax dollars, to study ‘extinct species’ (don’t you love that redundant phrase they spout all the time? Think about it—if the animals are ‘extinct’ (a) how do they know about them and (b) what exactly do they expect to accomplish by studying them?) . As they are declaring a certain race extinct, they find herds of animals they didn’t even know existed! And then, they take away our farmland to label it ‘endangered terra firma’ and try to stop us from supporting our families through hunting.
Planned Parenthood survives off of our tax dollars. My tax money is probably going straight to the pocket of some deluded counselor so that he can be paid to tell young girls or older women to kill their children. Worse yet, what if my tax money is actually funding abortions?
Are these petty uses for our tax dollars any less tyrannical than the Stamp Act, or the Tea Tax that caused the infamous Boston Tea Party?
All right, so the founding father’s felt that their rights were being infringed upon by insane taxes.
What else motivated them?
Ultimately, it was the lack of democratic government. King George appointed governors for each colony and as time went on, he took more and more power from the people until their hands were tied.
Again, where is the difference between that and modern America? Sure, we aren’t under absolute communism yet, but the people’s voting system has been so corrupted that some people actually voted multiple times in November. That is incredibly wrong! And nobody should have to be told that. Failing to stop people from voting multiple times strangles democracy. What kind of people will be voting twice? Criminals. Why? Because law abiding citizens will not vote twice.
Let’s not let the democracy be drained out of this country through lack of interest. It certainly did not become a sovereign nation through lack of interest! I highly doubt that the founding fathers would have ever found the impetus to declare independence from Britain if they sat on the couch every day listening to the little voices on television telling them about how the state of affairs between the colonies and Great Britain was ‘right’.
The rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are important. They were ‘endowed by our Creator’. Life is everybody’s most prized possession. We go to extremes to prolong our lives. That said, we cannot disregard the lives of unborn children and people with physical maladies without looking like complete idiots. Since everybody has the ‘right to choose’ or the ‘right of privacy’ are we going to let serial killers off the hook just because they have a ‘right to privacy’? Of course not, but it is something that bears thinking about.
Let’s restudy the ideas of the founding fathers—left behind in their writings—and rediscover what this country was meant to be.
